Ravenscroft screen & panel upgrade

In response to a SHE assurance action the Ravenscroft plant had some issues that had been identified. Historically the screen would start a clean cycle if a differential Level was detected across the grate. This system had been altered at some point and resulted in unnecessary clean cycles. The old differential level system had been tested and was deemed un-repairable. New level devices were required and migration into a new control system.

HTS lead role was to Upgrade the existing control panel and HMI screen, software design, panel design, build, install and commission.

Objectives and Deliverables

  • Include control and interface for existing Penstock Valves
  • Display Level differential on new screen
  • Replace and upgrade from capacitance probes to radar
  • Replace existing relays for trip amp or similar
  • New level probe in river
  • Utilise existing seven core cable between panels
  • Re-locate Current HMI to a more readable location
  • DSD calcs for the control panels loops
  • Compliant to BS 7671, BS 61511 and BS EN 60204-1:2018

PROCESS and Conclusions

  • HTS Group used the powerful Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 PLC with Simatic HMI to provide a robust and user friendly system
  • All software was designed in house which meant tight control over the required processes without the need for sub-contracting out to 3rd
  • In house control panel design, build and full FAT & Functional testing were completed
